Dortha Evelyn Pate Birchfield

Dortha Evelyn Pate Birchfield, 84, of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, October 6, 2014, at her residence.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Earl M. and Nervia Stevens Pate.
Mrs. Birchfield was a homemaker. She loved cooking, working in her flowers and collecting teapots. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church but attended Oak Grove Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Davis, and a special friend, George Hyder.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Bobbie Sue Birchfield and Earl and Linda Birchfield, all of Elizabethton; two granddaughters, Lori and Kari Birchfield; a step-granddaughter, Laura Bowers; a sister, Estelle Culler, Elizabethton; a brother, Olan Pate, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law, Freda Birchfield, Roan Mountain; and her special friends, James and Barbara Allen and Rozella Richardson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Birchfield will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert Shannon officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 9, in the Garland Cemetery (Limestone Cove). Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday, will be Jimmie Wiseman, Travis Brummitt, Kevin Lenden, Casey Guinn, Kevin Fields and Keith Whitson. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Houston, Conley Street, Matt Miller and Tim Chase. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Elaine Brummitt, her caregiver Sharon Fowler, Coles Medical, the staff of Mountain States Hospice, Dr. Todd Whitaker and Kathy Mensch. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
