Luther Blevins

Luther Blevins, 84, (Tiger Creek Community), Roan Mountain, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center.
A native of Carter County, he was the youngest son of the late James and Arizona Miller Blevins. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Maude Walton and Mary Lee Hopson, and a brother, Lon Blevins.
Mr. Blevins worked as a roofer for Summers-Taylor at the North American Rayon Plant until his retirement. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith.
Mr. Blevins loved to farm, garden and raise Christmas trees.
He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Georgia Hill Blevins; his daughter and son, Becky and Randy Blevins, both of the home; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Blevins will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, October 17, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Danny Osborne officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 18, in the Datson Cemetery, Fork Mountain Road, Roan Mountain. Family, friends and neighbors will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, prior to the service. Friends may also visit with the family at the home anytime. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center who took part in Luther’s care, and also his roommate, Joe Rigney, who kept a careful watch over him.
