Kathryn Jean Hamilton, 17, 136 Ray Cates Lane, Hampton, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 19, 2014, at the residence of her grandparents, Boyd and Paula Smith, following an 18-month battle with brain cancer. She was born in Chesapeake, Va., but had lived in Hampton for a number of years.
Kathryn was a Junior at Hampton High School and a member of “Young Life.” She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include her father, Michael Fitzgerald and wife Lori, Chesapeake, Va.; her mother, Angela Hamilton Pfuntner, Portsmouth, Va.; four brothers, Logan Holmes, Portsmouth, Va., Shawn Michael, John Robert and James Michael Fitzgerald, all of Chesapeake, Va.; and her paternal great-grandmother, Eleanor Faye Culpepper, Chesapeake, Va. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Kathryn Hamilton will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Hendrich officiating. Interment will follow in the Rittertown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the doctors and staff of St. Jude Children’s Hospital affiliate at Johnson City Medical Center, the staff of Mountain States Hospice and the faculty and student body of Hampton High School. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
