Carl “Big Red” Canter

Carl “Big Red” Canter, 73, 1604 Highway 91, Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
Mr. Canter was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Brownlow and Helen Davis Canter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Bill Canter.
Mr. Canter was the owner and operator of Big Red’s Produce and was of the Baptist faith. He loved building things — bird houses, dog houses and Christmas displays; and planting trees.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Canter, of the home; three sons, Tim Canter and wife Edith, Ted Canter and wife Christine, and Travis Canter, all of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Stephanie Proffitt and husband David, Teddy Canter, Jessica Canter, Chyenne Canter and Travis Canter; and two sisters, Frances Hamm and husband Billy, and Charles Canter and wife Joetta, all of Elizabethton.
