Lula Mae Barnes

Lula Mae Barnes, 62, of Roan Mountain, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014, at Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Barnes was born in Banner Elk, N.C., to the late Howard and Hazel Stout Harrison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ila “Ollie” Harrison, and two brothers, James Harrison and Jack Harrison.
Mrs. Barnes was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She loved to attend church and spend time with family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Doug Barnes, of the home; three children, Melissa Gardner, Tonya Cordell and Robert Whitehead, all of Roan Mountain; five grandchildren, Jax Gardner, Zoe Gardner, Tyler Houser, Ashley Houser and Skyrian Cordell; and a brother, Charles Harrison. Several nieces and nephews, who were all special to her, also survive.
A service to honor the life of Lula Mae Barnes will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 9, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Jim Storie officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow in the Markland Cemetery.
