J.C. Renfro, 82, of Erwin, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2014, at Hermitage Health Center. He was a native of Unicoi County and a son of the late Dewey and Mary Lee Coffey Renfro.
J.C. loved being outdoors. He enjoyed walking, running, fishing and working on his yard. He liked to watch UT Football and all Unicoi County Sports. In his earlier years he mentored many young kids through Little League and Babe Ruth.
Mr. Renfro loved church, singing and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as an easy going, fun loving, always smiling and all around positive person. He will be missed by many.
Mr. Renfro retired from the CRR and CSX Railroads after 39 years of service. He was a former member of Hulen Baptist Church and a current member of Fishery Community Church.
In addition to his parents, J.C. was preceded in death by his first wife and mother to his children, Louise Renfro, and also by wife, Delcie Renfro; a daughter, Debbie Renfro; sisters, Lucille Ray and Virgie Freeman; and a brother, Arthur Renfro.
J.C. Renfro has left behind to cherish his memory a daughter, Angela Renfro of Elizabethton, Tenn.; sons, Calvin Renfro of Erwin, Tenn., and Bryan Renfro of Erwin, Tenn.; sisters, Marie Tittle and husband Jim, Jean Fowler and husband Scott, Anna Mae Tittle and husband Ikey and Carolyn Haynes and husband Tex; and a stepdaughter, Ladonna Dobson and husband Rick of North Carolina. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to his Hermitage Nursing Home Family, Caris Hospice and to Dr. Vivian Clark. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of J.C. Renfro in a funeral service to be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home with Rev. Ferrell Peterson and Rev. Richard Tittle officiating. Vocal selections will be provided by Juanita Tittle. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 6 p.m. and continue until the service time on Wednesday at Valley Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 13, at Evergreen Cemetery. Those who wish to attend will meet at Valley Funeral Home by 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Those serving as pallbearers will be Doug Allen, Michael Allen, Butch Allen, Harold Rice, Larry Norris and Marvin Kegley. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Lyle, Elwood Lyle and Bobby Knight.
