Phyllis Joyce Garland

Mrs. Phyllis Joyce Garland, 74, of Jonesborough, Tenn., passed away Monday, November 24, 2014, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Donald Joe and Emma Simerly Matheson.
Mrs. Garland retired from Texas Instruments as a line leader. She was a member of Community Baptist Church and she loved to work in her flowers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Garland Jr.; a brother, Kenneth Matheson; and a sister, Shirley Johnson.
Survivors include a son, Greg Winters and wife Nikki, Elizabethton; a daughter, Pamela Ward, Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Kassie Winters, Kayla Winters, Cloe W. Winters, Blake Ward and Drew Ward; a brother, Harold Matheson, and a sister, Patsy Cates, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews and a special little friend, Lacy Jones, Jonesborough, also survive.
A graveside service to honor the life of Mrs. Phyllis Joyce Garland will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, November 28, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Friday for the service. Active pallbearers will be Rick Cates, Lonnie Cates, Jamie Matheson, Wendell Wallen, Jack Stout and Kevin Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be John Townsend, Blake Ward, Drew Ward and Chris Hubbard. Friends may call at the residence of her son, Greg Winters, 1035 Winters Private Drive, Elizabethton, Tenn. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Memorial and Honor Program, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
