Ernest Head, 78, formerly of Bristol Highway, Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014, at Hillview Health Center.
A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late John and Hattie Hill Head.
Mr. Head had worked at Beaunit Fibers and retired from the maintenance department at E.T.S.U. He was a member of Lynnwood Christian Church.
Mr. Head was a U.S. Army veteran and a life member of the V.F.W. Post #2166.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Angeline Waldrop Head, on February 17, 2014; a brother, Eugene Head; and two sisters, Hannah Lee Carter and Viola Morgan.
Survivors include a sister, Ella Mae Jackson, Elizabethton; two brothers, Leslie Head and R.L. Head, both of Elizabethton; and a brother-in-law, Alfred Carter, Hampton. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A service to honor the life of Ernest Head will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 29, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Mark Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews, friends, neighbors, his church family, John Jackson, Jerry Vanhoy and Robert Cox. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family would like to express a special thank you to Hillview Health Center and Caris Hospice for their loving care to Mr. Head.
