Shirley Ann Harmon Franklin, 68, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, December 11, 2014, at her residence.
She was a native of Avery County, N.C., and had lived in Carter County for several years.
Shirley was a homemaker. She was a member of Newland Church of Jesus Christ, Newland, N.C., but had attended Valley Forge Christian Church for several years.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father, John W. Harmon.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Thomas E. Franklin; a daughter, Teresa Ann Lawson and husband Jerry, Elizabethton; a son, Timothy E. Franklin, Blountville, Tenn.; a grandson, Nathanyal Lawson, Elizabethton; her mother, Florence Odom Harmon, Newland, N.C.; a sister, Pricilla Letterman and husband Dwayne, Elizabethton; two brothers, Dale Harmon and wife Sherry, Elizabethton, and Bobby Harmon, Newland, N.C.; and very special friends that Shirley adopted, Miranda Bishop and Debra Briggs.
Funeral services for Mrs. Franklin will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 13, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. David Siebenaler, minister, Pastor Ed Davis and Pastor David Adkins officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Joel Crisp. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to all the people that took the time to bring food and visit during her illness, especially the Valley Forge Christian Church family and to Amedisys Hospice for the wonderful care Shirley received. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the service hour on Saturday. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence.
