Opal T. Mottern

Mrs. Opal T. Mottern, 96, Pine Oaks Assisted Living, Johnson City, Tenn., passed away Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.
A native of Cocke County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Nick and Theresa Lewis Thornton.
Mrs. Mottern was a beautician for over 40 years. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where she loved to sing in church and was a member of the choir when she was able to attend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester J. Mottern; a brother, Monroe Thornton; and a special friend, Clara Rhea Baker.
Survivors include a brother, Jesse B. Thornton, Charlotte, N.C.; two nieces, Sheila Cox and husband Russell, Charlotte, N.C., and Gloria Ross and husband Robert, Rock Hill, S.C.; a great-niece, Hannah Muthersbaugh and husband Scott; and two great-nephews, Daniel Cox and Jared Ross. Special friends are Steve and Diane Roberts and their children, Trayce Roberts, Sara Chambers and Lucas Roberts.
The service to honor the life of Opal T. Mottern will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 18, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services of Elizabethton with Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, prior to the funeral service. The graveside service and interment will follow the service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Lucas Roberts and Jared Ross.
