Doreen Gayle “Dody” Whittaker, 55, of Elizabethton, passed away December 14, 2014, at Park West Hospital in Knoxville, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dody was born in Arlington, Va. She had lived and made her home in Elizabethton, Tenn., for many years.
Dody was a born-again Christian and a member of Doe River Baptist Church. She was an Area Supervisor with Murray Guard Inc. and had worked with several companies in the Tri-City area for Murray.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Whittaker.
Dody is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carrie and Clint Pollino, Knoxville, Tenn., and Gayle and Thad Montgomery, and grandchildren, Emma, Evan, Hayley, Heath and Heidi, Wirtz, VA; her parents, Rev. Richard and Jane Taylor, Lebanon, Ohio; one sister and brother-in-law, Danielle and David Schultz, Lebanon, Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Judy Taylor, Lovettsville, Va.; and her nieces and nephews. Dody cherished her adopted family, Beth Hodges, Julie Gass, Jane King and Chris Sargent and his wife. She held a special place in her heart for each of the ladies in her monthly Friday Girls Night Out Group: Jane, Sherry F., Glenis, Becky, Kay, Dorothy, Peggy H., Joann, Peggy L. and Sherry A. Dody knew no strangers and made lifelong friends wherever she went.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Doe River Baptist Church on Saturday, January 3, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Fink, minister, and Pastor Pete Tackett officiating. It was Dody’s wish to be cremated. Condolences to the family may be sent to our website at www.memorialfcelizabethton.com.
