Mary Lynn Cannon Van Huss

Mary Lynn Cannon Van Huss, born June 13, 1923 in New Castle, Ind., to Blaine and Lucy Cannon, passed peacefully with her daughter and son-in-law by her bedside on Tuesday, December 23, 2014. Mary Lynn was baptized and received Christ as her Savior at an early age, and was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Elizabethton, Tenn.
Mary Lynn was a very elegant, kind and simple southern lady whose blue eyes sparkled each time you saw her. Her endearing kindness to everyone that came in her path was her testament to our Lord and Savior.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter “Buck” Van Huss, and sisters, Mayme Shull and Cleo Lowe.
Mary Lynn is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Van Huss Lockhart and husband, Phil E. Lockhart of Arlington, Texas; first cousins, Goldean Deal, Imogene Markland and Nancy Merritt, all of Elizabethton, Tenn.; nieces, Lisa Bowling and husband, Mike of Indianapolis, Ind., Hazel Van Huss Marion, Ann Van Huss Stout and Glenda Van Huss Estep, all of Elizabethton, Tenn., Margaret Van Huss Doherty of Roanoke, Va., Nancy Van Huss Woodward of Greenwood, S.C., Robin Felty Scamuffa of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Susan Myers Keebler of Johnson City, Tenn.; nephews, K.S. “Dick” Van Huss and Herman Roland of Elizabethton, Tenn., Harold Van Huss of Johnson City, Tenn., Patrick Van Huss of Columbia, S.C., William Myers of Knoxville, Tenn., and John Shull of Bristol, Tenn.; and a whole host of great-nephews, great-nieces and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to her wonderful, sweet Colonial Heights neighbors for many years of friendship and support, and to her devoted caregivers at the Pecan Park Assisted Living Facility in Arlington, Texas, where she resided for the last 15 months.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Mike Bowling officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Joe Bowling, Josh Bowling, Alan Bowery, Denny Sorah and Mike Bowling.
