Carl Hicks, 96, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
Carl was a native of Carter County and the son of the late John H. and Millie Hardin Hicks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers.
Mr. Hicks was retired from North American Rayon after 42 years of service. He was the oldest active member of Doe River Baptist Church and was a life member of VFW Post No. 2166. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in the 170th Field Artillery in World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Ola Hicks, of the home; a sister, Geraldine Pierce, Hixon, Tenn.; and a daughter, Kathy Hicks, of the home. Several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Kenny Jones, also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Carl Hicks will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2015, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Herman Crumley officiating. Music will be under the direction of Sue Hamm. Friends and family are welcome to call at the funeral home between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to the service on Friday. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the ICU Staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital for their loving care and also to Dr. Jonathan Bremer and his staff. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Doe River Baptist Church, 113 Avon Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643, or to the charity of your choice, in memory of Mr. Hicks.
