Reta Vera Buckles

Reta Vera Buckles, 95, of Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 11, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Reta lived all her life in Elizabethton, Tenn. She was a member of the first graduating class of Unaka High School. She was retired from Sperry Univac in Bristol and was a member of Unaka Baptist Church in Elizabethton.
Before she became sick she loved to garden, quilt, and most of all cook for her family and friends and was known as one of the best cooks in the community. She lived such a full and blessed life of 95 years; she loved her brothers, sisters and all her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Henry and Mossie Cole Buckles; two brothers, Ross and Clyde Buckles; and three sisters, Shirley Younce, Cora Wolfe and Florine Buckles.
She is survived by a nephew, Jeff Buckles (Sheila), Elizabethton; her great-nephew, Adam Buckles, Elizabethton, who helped care for her; and her great-niece, Lynsey Buckles. Additional survivors include other nephews, Lynn Buckles (Janene), Richmond, Ky., David Buckles, Nashville, Dale Buckles, Elizabethton, Bryan Buckles (Lynn), Fredericksburg, Va., Max Younce (Karen), of Arizona, and Eddie Wolfe (Betty), Butler; and nieces, Beverly Younce Lauchner (Larry), Fresno, Calif., and Vickie Wolfe, Butler. Many other great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Reta Vera Buckles will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with Mr. Lynn Buckles, minister, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, or at the home of her nephew, Jeff Buckles, at other times. Interment will follow the funeral service at Buckles Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her nephews, David Buckles, Dale Buckles, Adam Buckles, Joseph Buckles, Bryan Buckles, Eddie Wolfe and Jason Wolfe. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Buckles, Ray Brooks, deacons and members of Unaka Baptist Church and Pastor Walker Roberson. The family would like to express a special and sincere thank you to Geraldine Brooks, Myrtle Pierce, Carolyn Buckles, Dale Buckles, Vickie Wolfe, her caretakers, Fran Chandler, Jane Ward, Joy Taylor, Dr. Joshua Morris, Brad Williams, Johnson City Medical Center Hospice and the 2100 Wing of Johnson City Medical Center, all of whom took wonderful care of Reta.
