Dr. Ben Allen Morrell Sr., 67, of NHC Healthcare of Johnson City, formerly of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.
Mr. Morrell was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Howard James and Carrie Bernice Allen Morrell.
Mr. Morrell was a graduate of Elizabethton High School, Class of 1965, attended East Tennessee State University and graduated University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in 1971. He was a former employee of Allen Taylor Pharmacy and also worked at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center as a pharmacist.
He was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church and was a fly fisherman and a sports fan. He loved spending time with his family and was a faithful follower of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Witten and husband Ryan, Piney Flats, Tenn.; two sons, Benji Morrell and wife Millie Ann, Dallas, Ga., and Danny Morrell and wife Jaime, Knoxville,Tenn.; grandson, Jackson Morrell, Dallas, Ga.; granddaughter, Morgan Morrell, Dallas, Ga., and granddaughter, Alex Morrell, Knoxville, Tenn.; the mother of his children, Deborah Nidiffer Bishop, Mountain City, Tenn.; and a sister, Dyanne Frazier and husband Dr. Arnold Frazier, Cornelius, N.C. Three nephews also survive.
A committal and entombment service to honor the life of Dr. Ben Allen Morrell Sr. will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 17, in the Chapel of the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Dick Morris, minister, and Rev. Harold McNabb officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rev. McNabb. Active pallbearers will be Benji Morrell, Danny Morrell, Ryan Witten, Jim Bishop, Bill Carter, Tony Hardin and Charlie Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Hugh Reed, John Allen and Dr. Arnold Frazier. Everyone will meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 1 p.m. Saturday to go in procession. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, prior to the service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Boones Creek Christian Church for their Christian Fellowship and faithful support. Also, to the doctors and staff of NHC Healthcare for all the special love extended to Ben and his family over the many years.
