Teresa Jean Morris Birchfield Metcalf, 56, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Saturday, January 17, 2015, at her residence following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd D. and Flossie V. McAninch Morris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Terry Edward Morris and Roy Lee Morris.
Teresa was a light among the darkness, she was selfless, compassionate and always saw the best in everyone. She was the fastest runner in her 4th grade class; she outran all the boys in her class at Keenburg Elementary. She won several occupational awards and was the “Best Mother of a Lifetime.”
She was the manager of the First Utility District of Carter County, and had worked at Levi Strauss, Fingerhut, Sossner Steel Stamps and Wal-Mart of Elizabethton. She was of the Baptist faith and had attended Lynn Valley Baptist Church, Happy Valley Baptist Church, College Park Freewill Baptist Church and Zion Freewill Baptist Church.
Teresa was a mother to everyone and was loved by everybody. She enjoyed being with family, yard sales, softball, and going to the beach. She also liked antiques, being social at church, and was involved with several groups to help those in need; in fact, she would give the shirt off her back to anyone. Her greatest joy was being with her children and grandchildren, Carrie, Cody, Bronson, Mason and Isaiah.
Survivors include a daughter, Carrie Renee Birchfield, and a son, Cody Wayne Birchfield, both of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Bronson Troy Norman, William Mason Norman and Isaiah Daniel Birchfield, all of Elizabethton; and two sisters, Marylin Trivette and husband William “Billy” Trivette, Hampton, and Rose Stout and husband Glenn Dale Stout, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive, along with her special friends, Kathy Baker, Jane Davis, Joan Carr, The Birchfield Family, Cathy Arnold, Starr Honeycutt, June, Shirley, Jewel and Patty Glover.
