Georgia Lee Lewis went to Heaven February 1, 2015, at her residence. She was born to Horace and Mary Harvey Foster, October 30, 1935. Other than a couple of short periods in Florida, she was a lifelong resident of Elizabethton and Carter County. Georgia was the widow of Paul “Baldy” Lewis, who passed away in November 1991, and we know she is excited to be reunited with him. Along with her parents and husband, Georgia was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Harvey, and a sister, Helen Glover.
Georgia is survived by a son, Dave Lewis and wife Tammy; two cherished grandsons, Matthew and Andrew, and their wives, Mandy and Jamie; along with three step-grandchildren, Krissy Dorton, Michael Carter and Lindsey Reimer.
Georgia is also survived by the “apples of her eye” in her later years, four great-grandsons, Hayden, Landon, Gavyn and William. These boys gave her a strong reason for living even as she battled cancer. She also has nine step-great-grandchildren, Haley, Carter, Maddie, Zachary, Brooklyn, Camy, Kenna, Caroline and Brinkley.
Georgia is survived by many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are sisters, Lois Matherly and Wanda Tester, who along with special nieces, Diane Carr and Mary Ann Williams, have given so much love and attention to Georgia in her last years, which will never be forgotten.
Georgia was a lifelong member of Harmony Baptist Church in the Keenburg community. She loved her Lord and served in several capacities in her church through the years. Her main wish in life was for her friends and family to be saved through faith in Jesus and to enjoy a life lived in God’s will. She was a 1953 graduate of Elizabethton High School.
Georgia was for many years the secretary to various principals at Elizabethton High School. She moved from the high school to become secretary to the superintendent of Elizabethton City Schools. She retired from her past position as secretary to the director at Tennessee Technology Center.
Graveside services for Georgia Lee Lewis will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, in the New Slagle Cemetery, Reynolds Road, with the Rev. Jerry Lyons and the Rev. Eric Brown officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be her church family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund. The family wishes to thank Dr. Schubert, Dr. Kramer and the staff of Amedisys Hospice services for their extremely passionate care of our loved one.
