Nancy Slagle Buck

Mrs. Nancy Slagle Buck, 84, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at her residence.
A native of Bluefield, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Rex B. Slagle Sr. and Flossie Hart Slagle.
Mrs. Buck attended Milligan College and graduated from East Tennessee State College. She was a teacher and was named TN Science Teacher of the Year in 1975. She was also named Elizabethton High School Teacher of the Year in 1988-89 and 1994-95.
Mrs. Buck was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton where she was a Sunday School teacher of the Fidelis Class for many years. She was also a former member of the Alpha Delta Kappa-Alpha Nu Education Sorority, several local and state Education Associations and the Elizabethton Business and Professional Woman’s Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Howard Slagle, Worley Slagle, Rex B. Slagle Jr. and Dr. David Slagle.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Jack A. Buck, of the home; two sons, Jack Sanford Buck and wife Amy Shell Buck, Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and Michael Dean Buck, Johnson City; three grandchildren, Justin M. Buck, Brandy Buck Roberts and husband Matthew Roberts and Beckey L. Buck; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Andrew Roberts and William Ethan Roberts. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Nancy Slagle Buck will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, February 13, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Mr. John H. Smith and Mr. Mike Klaus, ministers, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence at any time. The entombment and committal service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 14, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Amedisys Hospice and to Dr. Robert Walter for their care of Mrs. Buck.
