Wilma “Peach” Proffitt Shell

Wilma “Peach” Proffitt Shell, 65, of Elizabethton, entered into rest with The Lord, Monday, February 9, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mrs. Shell was the daughter of the late William and Evadna Slemp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Kiser, and a step-brother, James Slemp of Joliet Ill.
Peach was a lifelong resident of Carter County. Before her health deteriorated, she worked part time for the Department of Agriculture. She also enjoyed farming, cooking and spending time with family and friends. She is especially known for her knowledge of family history and the ability to tell stories.
Mrs. Shell was a member of Slagle’s United Methodist Church where she was involved in women’s work in the church.
Peach is survived by her husband of 40 years, Homer Shell, and six children, Kevin Kiser; Lisa Evans and husband, Kyle; Kristi Perkins and husband, Elonza; Kraig Kiser; Daniel Shell and fiancée, Donna Mitchell-Vitoux; Jason Shell and wife, Sandy; and many cousins and special friends. She leaves to cherish her memory the following grandchildren, Erin Kiser, Emily Kiser, Kolby Evans, Kylee Evans, Alleea Shell, DJ Shell, Eric Vitoux, Elizabeth Vitoux, Kaylen Shell and Jasy Shell. She is also survived by a step-sister, Virginia Agnew and husband, Bob, and a step-sister-in-law, Thelma Slemp. Additionally, she leaves beloved friends, Pam Campbell, Virginia Gipson, Beulah “Mutt” Williams, several wonderful friends on Cottage Avenue, and exceptional caretakers, Irene Birkner and Judy Byrd.
The family would like to especially thank the JCMC staff for the great care provided to Mrs. Shell during her recent hospitalization. Additionally, we want to acknowledge Karing Hearts Cardiology, Dr. Jeff Schoondyke and assistants, Dave and Julie, for the excellent care provided over the course of her illness.
The family will greet guests and share memories from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 13, at Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, with a Celebration of Life to follow at 8 p.m. Committal services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 14, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Reverends Estel Williams and Randy Johnson will officiate. Active pallbearers will be chosen from sons, sons-in-law and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Benny Colbaugh, Randy Colbaugh, Richard Campbell,and Ernie Campbell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Shell to Slagle’s United Methodist Church Women’s Society, 285 Old Watauga Road, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
