Ned John “Mac” McGee

Ret. CW-4 Ned John “Mac” McGee, U.S. Army, 93, formerly of 2207 N. Greenwood Drive, Johnson City, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Lakebridge Health Care Center following a brief illness. A native of Melville, La., he was the son of the late Adam and Ella Legere McGee.
A 30-year veteran, “Mac” was an aviator in the U.S. Navy during World War II, December 1941 until November 1945, and spent 26 years in the U.S. Army, from May 1947 until June 1973, serving in Embassies around the Mediterranean as an Arabic linguist and cryptanalyst. He spoke five different languages.
Mr. McGee was a lifetime aviation enthusiast who enjoyed cooking and working crossword puzzles. He loved God and his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Margaret Roe McGee; three sisters, Helen Ducote, Lucille Aymond and Eula Fontenot; and two brothers, Pierre McGee and Eulice McGee.
Survivors include a son, Michael McGee and wife Pamela, Woodbridge, Va., and three daughters, Elizabeth Churchwell and husband Mike, Johnson City, Tenn., Margie Tucker and husband James, Wise, Va., and Kathy Carver and husband Larry, Sevierville, Tenn. Thirteen grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Ret. CW-4 Ned John “Mac” McGee, U.S. Army, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Chaplain Dwight MacPherson officiating. Interment will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 13.
