Cloudland FFA Contest Update

When the National Future Farmers of America organization sent out information to the chapters who were finalists in the national t-shirt design contest it made one mistake – they sent the chapter’s the wrong website address for online voting.
“We were thrown for a big loop and all of the materials we passed out or emailed with how to vote, etc. had the incorrect web address on them,” Cloudland High School’s FFA Chapter adviser Lauren Jaynes said.
The CHS FFA team is one of 12 finalists for the National FFA’s annual t-shirt design contest. If the club places in the top six they will be given 50 percent of the profit from the sale of their t-shirt design. The voting for the contest is completely online. Polls opened on Monday and will remain open until 5 p.m. on Thursday.
If CHS wins, Turbyfill said the club will use the money to send teams to state and national competitions as well as help fund jackets and dues for members who cannot afford them.
The Cloudland club took a unique approach to their design for the contest. Their shirt features an image of the iconic Rosie the Riveter sporting a traditional FFA club jacket and bearing the message “Anything you can do, we can do, too!”
One of the reasons behind the use of the female icon is that what was once largely an all boys club has shifted into a club seeing a growing number of girls joining the ranks. At Cloudland, the club actually has more female members – 32 of the club’s 53 members are girls.
“The FFA as a whole, and locally at Cloudland, has become largely composed of girls,” Turbyfill said. “The shirt commemorates the fact that in the FFA, girls are just as capable as boys.”
For the contest, visitors to the website can cast up to six votes – that means they can select their six favorite shirts, or they can vote for their favorite shirt six times.
Turbyfill provided the following instructions for two different ways to vote.
