Kay Church, 63, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, from her residence. Kay was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Butler and Mary Scalf Jenkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Leroy Hill, Denis Hill and Ricky Hill; a sister, Della Mae Davenport; and a brother-in-law, Bill Elliott.
Kay was the cafeteria manager at Hampton Elementary School and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and “her kids” at Hampton Elementary, cooking and spending her summers by the swimming pool.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Rick Church, of the home; two daughters, Cindy Church Stevenson and her husband, Doug, and Renee McNeal and her husband, Steve, all of Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Tessa Stevenson and Ryleigh McNeal; her brothers, Gary Hill and wife Judy, Terry Scalf and wife Gale, Paul Hill and wife Carol, and Cecil Hill and wife Norma; her sisters, Sue Elliott and Betty Mathes and husband Chuck, all of Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews, including, Terra Scalf, Travis Scalf, Deana Jenkins, Woody Lyons, Benny Lyons, Bo Lyons, Tim Lyons, Crystal Kuhn, Bobby Elliott, Billy Elliott, Tammy Hill, Missy Marlow and Greg Hill, as well as her special friends, Barbara Eggers, Kevin Ward, Sue Pritchard, Sherry McIntosh, Bill Blevins, Krista Ramsey, Marisa Potter, Rita Waycaster, Nancy Murray and Jean Payne, and a special little boy, Collin Guinn.
A service to honor the life of Kay Church will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, March 20, in the gymnasium of Hampton Elementary School with Rev. Ronnie Campbell and Rev. Shane Waters officiating. Music will be provided by Terra Scalf and Vanessa Cox. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. in the gymnasium, prior to the service on Friday. The family requests that everyone wear their “Pray for Kay” shirts, in honor of Miss Kay. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, in the Hardin Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be James Kyte, Steve McNeal, Doug Stevenson, Travis Scalf, Bobby Elliott, Woody Lyons, Tim Lyons, Benny Lyons, Bo Lyons and Billy Elliott. Honorary pallbearers will be Carmon Dugger, Howard Matherly, Jim Andrews, Cheyenne Camillo, Wesley Murray, Kelly Crain, the faculty and staff of Hampton Elementary School and all of the students throughout the years. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Hampton Elementary School, 408 Highway 321, Hampton, TN 37658, in memory and honor of Miss Kay to help with the ice cream program and lunch program, which she held close to her heart during her employment.
