Larry Neal Alderson

Larry Neal Alderson, 70, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his heavenly father on Thursday, March 19, 2015, from his residence. Mr. Alderson was born in Dante, Va., a son of the late Eugene Carroll Alderson Sr. and Josephine Ramsey Alderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Alderson.
Mr. Alderson was employed for 36 years at Elizabethton High School. During his tenure he was both an educator and a coach. During his coaching career he served as head football coach, head track coach, athletics director and coached a number of other sports. He loved being an educator and EHS Athletics.
He loved walking, hiking and spending time in Roan Mountain with his family and friends. He attended First Baptist Church of Elizabethton and was a United States Air Force veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sue Colbaugh Alderson, of the home; a daughter, Carrie Murray and husband, Anthony, Johnson City; a son, Ryan Neal Alderson, Kingsport; a grandson, Colin Murray; a sister, Nina Myers and husband Garry, Kingsport; and two brothers, Eugene Alderson Jr. and wife Dora, Kingsport, and Roger Alderson and wife Mary of South Carolina. Two aunts along with several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Larry Neal Alderson will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 21, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Brent Seals officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22, in the Blevins Cemetery in the Stoney Creek Community. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Bud Jones, Jason Street, Greg Alderson, Steve Alderson, Eddie Carver and Terry Peters. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Street, Harold Street and Chuck Hyder. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Sunday to go in procession.
