Steven “Mack” Markland

Steven “Mack” Markland, 69, of Morehead City, N.C., formerly of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at his residence, following an extended illness.
Mr. Markland was born in Carter County to the late Elwood and Mattie Belle Norris Markland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Steven R. Markland, on August 15, 2014.
Mr. Markland retired from Jarl/Alcoa as a production manager. He was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elizabethton and was baptized at Freewill Baptist Church in Beaufort, N.C. He was a member of the American Legion, enjoyed fishing, and was a United States Navy veteran, having served in the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Ruth Sullivan Markland, of the home; a son, McDaniel Markland and wife Candice, Morehead City, N.C.; a grandson, Malachi Markland, Morehead City, N.C.; and an aunt, Debra Reeves, Nashville, Tenn.
A graveside service to honor the life of Steven “Mack” Markland will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, in the Grindstaff Cemetery with Rev. Bryan Smith officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 10 a.m. Friday to go in procession.
