Martha Mitchell Sorrell – (11/23/1955 – 3/26/2015)

Martha Nelson Mitchell Sorrell, formerly of Elizabethton, died Thursday, March 26, 2015, in Houston, Texas after a brief illness. Though Texas was her home since 1978, she still had many special family and friends throughout East Tennessee.
Martha was a 1973 graduate of Elizabethton High School and worked in numerous disciplines throughout her 40-year career. She was most recently employed as North America Sales Operations Coordinator for National Oilwell Varco, and was active in the Society for Professional Women in Petroleum. Her previous experience included roles in contracts administration, finance, legal and marketing. Despite all she accomplished in her career, her family and friends were her true passion and priority.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy Nelson Mitchell Jr. and Elise Anderson Mitchell; two sisters, Kaytella Mitchell Fuqua and Janice Mitchell; one brother, Anthony Mitchell; and her father-in-law, Irvin Sorrell.
Martha was married to loving husband Bruce Edward Sorrell on March 14, 1997, and is survived by him and mother-in-law, Frances Sorrell, as well as sisters-in-law, Connie (Larry) Sorrell Spiece and Janice (Walt) Sorrell Egan and their children and grandchildren.
She is also survived by her two devoted children, Amy (Glen) Stout Accardo and Derek (Lori) Ray Stout, as well as four beloved grandchildren, Dustin Albert Delisio, Joshua Brandon Delisio, Isaiah Andrew Stout and Elise Valerie Accardo.
Surviving siblings include Mary Ann (Gordon) Mitchell Boyd, Netia (Ellis) Mitchell Mayton and Jerry (Judy) Mitchell. She was also blessed with numerous nieces and nephews and two special friends, Debbie Ashbaugh and Delma Giroski, who she considered family.
A celebration of Martha’s life will take place at 11 a.m. CDT on Thursday, April 2, at Calvary Chapel in Friendswood, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you honor Martha by donating to the charity of your choice or to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
