Joetta Hamm Canter

Joetta Hamm Canter, 60, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, following an extended illness. Joetta was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Edith Ruth Lowe Hamm and the late William Harold Hamm. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Robert Hamm.
Mrs. Canter had worked as a medical secretary and was a member of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing the piano. She loved spending time with her pets, but will be remembered most for being a wonderful Mother, daughter and wife.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Charles E. Canter, of the home; two daughters, Ruthie Canter, of the home, and Teresa Bowers and husband Richard, Elizabethton; a brother, Billy and Fran Hamm, Elizabethton; a half brother, Bryan and Tagan Hamm and daughters, Watauga; and her special friends, Carol Kane, Dayton, Ohio, and Debbie Sochalski, Elizabethton.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Joetta Hamm Canter will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. James Hawk and Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. Music will be under the direction of Doug Bischoff. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, in the Canter Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ken Edmonds, Roger Davis, Don Wilson, Ronnie Breedon, Adam Williams, Jeremy Adkins and Shelby Holly. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews, Tim Canter, Ted Canter, Travis Canter, Roy Canter and Lee Canter, and Travis Johnson, Roy Lubag and the ICU nurses of Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 10:15 a.m. Thursday to go in procession. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the American Cancer Society, C/O Lou Cooter, 415 Washington Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643; or to the American Lung Association, 55 W.
