Clara Gertrude Peters Kelley

Clara Gertrude Peters Kelley, 90, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with her Heavenly father on Sunday, April 26, 2015, peacefully with family by her side. She was a daughter of the late Wade and Annie Peters. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Lester Kelley; a sister, Virginia Holly; and her brothers, Robert, Hampton, Franklin, Wade Jr. and Evant Peters.
Surviving are a brother, Bobby Peters and wife, Mittie, of Youngsville, N.C.; four sisters, Mary Ann Dix of Roanoke, Arlene Houchins of Christiansburg, Loretta Julian and Shirley Jeffers and husband, Cecil, of Elizabethton, Tenn. Also surviving is a very special brother-in-law and his wife, Richard and Joan Kelley, of Roanoke, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Clara was retired from Sears Roebuck and Company and was a member of Waverly Place Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching the Childrens Class and her Sunday School Class. She also enjoyed attending Washington Heights Grace Brethren Church with her sister, Mary Ann, where she was greatly adored. Attending church, traveling and her family were very important to her. Clara was a very special lady. Her wisdom, love, willingness to help others, and her witty remarks will be missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, at Waverly Place Baptist Church, Roanoke, Va., with Dr. Wayne Sellers and Pastor Kevin Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Waverly Place Baptist Church, 1407 Kenwood Blvd. S.E., Roanoke, VA 24013, or to West Side Christian Church, 1307 West G Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643 for their Heating/Air Fund.
