Goldia Sommers, 75, of Johnson City, Tenn., died after a lengthy battle with illness on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tenn. Born February 12, 1940 in Elizabethton, Tenn., she was predeceased by her parents, Clay and Georgia Buckles of Elizabethton, Tenn., brother, Sonny Buckles of Elizabethton, Tenn., and her beloved son, Robin Sommers, Peachtree, Ga.
Goldia was a compassionate and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a Carter County native and graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was a founding member of Parkway Baptist Church in Bristol, Tenn. She was always willing to help and give to all in need. Goldia has been known to open her heart and her home to family and friends of her children. She loved all equally.
Goldia was a true and honest business woman, always fighting for and putting her clients first. She was in real estate for 31 years and with Realty Executives for the last 14 years. She was a member of The National Association of Realtors. Goldia will truly be missed.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, John Earl Sommers of Johnson City, Tenn.; son, John Christopher Sommers of Johnson City, Tenn.; sisters, Jeannette Buck of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Sherry Montgomery of Bristol, Tenn.; granddaughters, Victoria Sommers Hopson of Johnson City, Tenn., and Breanna Sommers of Peachtree, Ga.; grandsons, Kevin Sommers of Johnson City, Tenn., Clayton Sommers of Johnson City, Tenn., and Jordan Sommers of Peachtree, Ga.; nephews, Matt Buckles of Bristol, Tenn., Michael Buckles of Johnson City, Tenn., Gary Montgomery Jr. of Bristol, Tenn., Micah Montgomery of Bristol, Tenn., Jared Montgomery of Bristol, Tenn., and Tom Buck of Tyler, Texas; niece, Lisa Reavis of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister-in-law, Marcy Buckles of Johnson City, Tenn.; brothers-in-law, Gary Montgomery of Bristol, Tenn., and Bob Buck of Elizabethton, Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Sommers of Peachtree, Ga.; and special family friends, Paul and Robin Sommers, Tonya and Aiden Nucci, Bill Mutz, David Nickles and David and Debbie Oaks.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Memorial Funeral Chapel, Elizabethton, Tenn., with a memorial service to follow at 7 p.m. officiated by Pastor Gary Montgomery. Interment will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, May 15, at Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton, Tenn. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Friday.
