Lanny Gene Eggers

Lanny Gene Eggers, 67, of Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015, at his residence after an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Norvelle Lane and Amanda Taylor Eggers.
Lanny was a 1965 Graduate of Unaka High School and Northeast State Community College. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.
Lanny was a retired employee of the Tennessee Department of Transportation, Specialist Supervisor 1, (Unit 1031), with 38 years of service. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Lanny loved fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Brendon Jake Eggers, and a brother, Dwight David Eggers.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Kim Hughes Eggers; his children, Johnny Lane Eggers, James H. Eggers and wife Caroline and Bobby “Bo” Williams, all of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Michael, Zeb and Sarrah Grace Eggers and Kayla and Shawn Shuffler; five great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Juanita Eggers, Elizabethton; two sisters, Vickie Berry and husband Bobby, and Betty Jo Eggers, all of Elizabethton; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Roberta Hughes, Elizabethton.
Funeral services for Lanny Gene Eggers will be conducted at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 24, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jerry McCoury officiating. Music will be provided by Dale Williams. Interment will follow in the Grindstaff Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Kent Williams, Shawn Shuffler, Darrell Hardin, Bobby Berry, Zeb Eggers and Eddie Honeycutt. Honorary pallbearers will be employees and former employees of the Tennessee Department of Transportation, Marvin Grindstaff, Jim Williams, Mitchell “Butch” Peters, Freddie Holly, Dan Walker, Ricky Oliver, Ronnie Taylor, Terry Thompson and Jobe Eggers Jr. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence.
