Harvey Anderson

Harvey Anderson, 81, of Elizabethton, left his earthly home to live in his forever home with Jesus, Friday, June 5, 2015, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Ralph Anderson and Cecil Jessee Anderson Lovelace and also his step-father, Ray Lovelace.
Harvey was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a Claims Adjuster for 18 years and retired as a Senior Claims Representative with Hartford Insurance Company. He was a member of East Side Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School Superintendent for several years.
Harvey was a member of the following organizations: Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238, The Shriners, Scottish Rite, Elizabethton Elks Lodge, Elizabethton Moose Lodge and The American Legion. He was one of the founders of the Elizabethton Jaycees and was active in the Elizabethton Boys & Girls Club. He served on the Elizabethton City Council and the Elizabethton City School Board for several years. Harvey was instrumental in securing the Elizabethton downtown Christmas Lights.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Nathan Harvey Anderson Jr., and a brother, Earnest Anderson.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, JoAnn Grindstaff Anderson; his children, Nikki Anderson, Elizabethton, and Rikki Anderson and wife Scarlett, Roan Mountain; his step-children, Jamie Johnson and wife Kathy, Gainesville, Ga., and Jason Johnson and wife Sarah, Kingsport; five grandchildren, Justin, Alden, Baylor and Cayden Anderson and Elijah Johnson; his special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Richard Gallaher; and his special pets, Dixie and Sambo.
Funeral services for Harvey Anderson will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike Anglin and the Rev. Martin Christian officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Rikki, Alden, Baylor and Justin Anderson, Jamie and Jason Johnson, Richard Gallaher and Michael Kiser. Masonic Memorial Services will be conducted following the funeral service by Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the nursing staff and doctors of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center and the Community Living Center. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. Friends may register their presence at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Monday or Tuesday morning.
