Bill Cornett

Bill Cornett, 94, 1178 Eggers Branch Road, Trade, Tenn., passed away Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. He was born October 4, 1920 to the late Roby C. and Lillie Newton Whitaker Cornett.
Bill was a member of Mountain Dale Baptist Church and he loved hunting, fishing and animals, especially his dog CoCo. Bill was a life-time member of the VFW in Mountain City. He was a WWII Army veteran, having served in Italy and North Africa, a member of the 91st Infantry Div. 362 Regimental Combat Team. Bill received the Purple Heart as well as the Combat Infantry and European Theater medals.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vennia Cornett, and a daughter, Charlotte Jenkins.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas Cornett and wife Deborah of Mountain City, Tenn., and Dennis Carroll Cornett and wife Lea of Hampton, Tenn.; two brothers, Emory Cornett and Coolidge Cornett, both of Beaver Dam, N.C.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends: nurses and staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home.
Funeral services for Bill Cornett will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 14, from the Charles B. Hux Memorial Chapel of Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m., prior to the service. Military graveside services will follow in the Reece Cemetery in Trade accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Billy Jack Jenkins, Michael Roop, Tony Payne, Lee Cornett, Justin Cornett, Derek Cornett, Kaleb Cornett, Andrew Cornett, Heath Jenkins, Jessie Jenkins and Brandon Whisman. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Cornett, Jerry Cornett, Dean Cornett, Randy Cornett, Mike Cornett, Ricky Cornett, Dexter Cornett, George Lowe, Barton Taylor, Kim and Tony Greer. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the nurses and staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home for their dedicated care of Bill.
