John Stanton, 67, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning, June 22, 2015, from the Johnson City Medical Center after suffering a heart attack the previous Friday.
John was born in Elizabethton and was the son of the late Samuel Robert “Bob” and Beverly “Tootsie” Williams Stanton. John was also preceded in death by his sister, Jane Stanton Hardin.
John graduated in 1965 from Elizabethton High School and attended Milligan College where he was on the baseball team. He always loved and played sports from the time he was a kid. He was a tremendous fan of the University of Tennessee football team.
John was a loving and caring husband, father, brother and son to all of his family. He was the owner of Stanton Janitorial Supply for 33 years and was the former owner of John’s Record Center.
John was a loyal and lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church and was a faithful member of the Chancel Choir.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Gaye Carden Stanton; a son who was his pride and joy, Justin Stanton of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Donna Stanton of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; three nephews, John Wagner, Nathan Hardin and Aaron Hardin; three nieces, Julie Workman, Sarah Presnell and Rachel Lyons; and three furry companions, who were John and Gaye’s pet dogs, Max, Sadie and Lucy.
A service to pay honor to the life of John Stanton will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Raymond Amos officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Chancel Choir and David Arney, organist. The family will receive friends from 1 til 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church.
