Lawrence Edward Roberts

Lawrence Edward Roberts, 74, Roan Mountain, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Banner Elk, N.C., he was a son of the late Arthur C. and Cleo Hughes Roberts. He had lived his entire life in Carter County.
Lawrence was a 1957 graduate of Cloudland High School. He was a very special fan of Cloudland Highlanders Athletics. He served in the United States Army. Prior to his purchase of the Roan Mountain Super Market, which he operated for 25 years, he was a salesman for Wallace Hardware and Pic N Pay Shoes. He loved to ride his motorcycle and travel, having visited all the 48 continental United States.
Lawrence was a member of the Tri-Cities Chapter C of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He attended Lower Shell Creek Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Bob Roberts.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Evelyn Marlowe Roberts; two children, Larry Roberts and wife Kristie, Roan Mountain, and Dr. Brittney Roberts Terry and husband Derek, Kingsport; four grandchildren, Chloe and Emma Roberts, Atley and Anson Terry; several nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Gary and Judy Stocton.
Funeral services for Lawrence Edward Roberts will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, at Lower Shell Creek Christian Church with Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, in the Roberts Family Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the church at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, and also at the funeral home at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, will be Gary Stocton, Mike Powell, Merle Townsend, Stacy Archer, Harry Hopson, Jack Johnson, Pete Johnson and Kenny Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Chapter C Gold Wing Road Riders, Dr. Wes Hanson, Dr. Devapiran Jaishankar and Dr. Chakradar Reddy. The family will like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of The Roan Mountain Medical Center, the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Center and all the nursing staff who gave special care to him. Military Honors will be provided by The American Legion. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Lower Shell Creek Christian Church.
