Shirley Ann White Sanford

Shirley Ann White Sanford, of Hampton, went to be with her Lord, Friday, June 19, 2015, at her residence.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Byrd Clawson and Mabel Davis Clawson Mitchell.
Shirley was a graduate of Cloudland High School and was owner and operator of Shirley’s Beauty Shop in Hampton for 25 years. She was a member of True Gospel Baptist Church, Gap Creek.
Shirley gave a home to many throw-away cats and dogs in the community throughout the years. When she rescued one, she provided a home and the best of care possible till the end of their life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe S. White, who died May 2, 2009; two brothers, Billy and Jesse Clawson; and a nephew, Scottie Miller.
Survivors include her husband and soul mate, James “Rusty” Sanford, of the home; two step-sons, Ethan Sanford, Johnson City, and Lester White, Butler; a granddaughter, Julie White, Hampton; a brother, Johnny Clawson, Johnson City; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Trissa and Ronnie Nave, Jonesborough, Pauline and Lester Julian, Patsy and Dean Presnell, all of Elizabethton, and Edith “Susie” and Bill Dishner, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services for Shirley Ann White Sanford will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, in the Rittertown Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Dean Presnell officiating. Music will be provided by Pastor Dean Presnell. Interment will follow the service. Pallbearers will be volunteers attending the service. Friends are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Shirley to the Carter County Animal Shelter, P.O.
