Another hurdle has been cleared with the erection of the Citizens Bank Stadium sign and scoreboard, Elizabethton City Schools Superintendent Corey Gardenhour said Monday.

“It is an exciting time for us,” he said.

The sign ensures that Citizens Bank President Joe LaPorte receives recognition for a generous donation that made the project possible.

“We would not have a new stadium without the council members, Mr. LaPorte and the taxpayers,” Gardenhour said.

With the installation of the sign, Gardenhour has grown more excited for the stadium’s opening day.

The soft opening of the stadium has been set for Sept. 3, and the following day will be the grand opening.

As long as everything continues to go according to schedule, Gardenhour said he is optimistic that those dates will not change.
