William Howard Yates, 57, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born January 11, 1958 in Boone, N.C., he was the son of the late Howard Junior and Cora Belle Trivett Yates.
Mr. Yates had lived in Carter County for a number of years. He was retired due to disability as a construction worker. He was a member of Bairds Creek Presbyterian Church, Vilas, N.C. He loved to fish, hunt and play his guitar.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Faye Rominger Yates, and a sister, Kathy Palmer.
Survivors include his children, Stephanie Grindstaff and husband Timothy, Elizabethton, and William Conrad Yates, Piney Flats; four grandchildren, Avery, Austin and Ashley Hodges and Alexis Yates; a great-granddaughter, Serenity Hodges; two brothers, Bobby Yates and wife Freida, Morganton, N.C., and Kevin Yates, Lubbock, Texas; two sisters, Judy Lambert, Vilas, N.C., and Debbie Moretz, Boone, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Patty Shell.
A memorial service for William Howard Yates will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Joe Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
