David Franklin Grindstaff

JOHNSON CITY — David Franklin Grindstaff, 76, passed away Friday, June 26, 2015, at the Community Living Center Hospice Unit of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center after being diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor.
He was 76 years old and a proud U.S. Army veteran. He retired from Inland Container Corporation, Elizabethton, Tenn., in 2003 after 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Polly Ellison Grindstaff, and three brothers, Infant James Lawrence, Clarence and Luther Grindstaff, all of Johnson City.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie Miller Grindstaff, daughter, Sara M. Sykes, grandson, Bailey Sykes, brother, Bill Grindstaff and his wife, Nancy, sisters, Mary Brummitt, Barbara Allen and her husband, James, several nieces and nephews, longtime friends and “coffee drinking” buddies, Charlie Brummitt and Luther Goodman, and his cats, Stella and Smudge.
No services are planned at this time. A graveside service will be held in the near future at Lyons Cemetery where his ashes will be buried near his parents.
