Table for two to the state’s official outdoor drama and a good meal, right this way.
This week when “Liberty! The Saga of Sycamore Shoals” kicks off, patrons will have the chance to turn the play into a dinner theater experience by enjoying a meal at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area and then kicking back to watch the actors perform.
“On each Friday and Saturday night of the play, our box office will open at 5:30 pm and guests will be seated at 6 p.m. for an entertaining and delicious meal,” Park Manager Jennifer Bauer said. “After the meal, you will be within short walking distance of the Fort Watauga Amphitheater, where ‘Liberty!’ will be performed.”
Although the nightly menu has not been formally set, the typical menu consists of all-you-can eat turkey legs, barbecue, sweet potato casserole, green beans, apple fritters and an assortment of beverages. The menu is subject to change without notice.
The “Liberty!” Dinner Theater is available by advanced reservations only, Bauer said. Reservations must be made by 1 p.m. on the day of the performance, either online at www.TheLibertyDrama.com or by calling the park at 423-543-5808.
“We hope you will plan to come early and enjoy an excellent dinner prior to the performance of ‘Liberty!’ ” Bauer said. “The dinner theater dates for our 2015 season are July 10 and 11, July 17 and 18 and July 24 and 25.”
Dinner theater ticket prices are $25 for adults; $23 for seniors (age 55 and over); $18 for students ages 6 to 17; and $19 for Friends of Sycamore Shoals Members. Each child age 5 and under is free with a paying adult.
Liberty! The Saga of Sycamore Shoals tells the story of what life was like along the Watauga River when our nation was born.
“The series of events that unfolded at Sycamore Shoals were critical to state and national history,” Bauer said. “These dramatic chapters in America’s westward expansion set the tone for a number of events that helped propel the British colonies towards independence and a democratic form of government.”
“These stories are proudly shared with our guests during each performance of Liberty! The Saga of Sycamore Shoals,” she added.
“Liberty!” runs Thursdays-Saturdays, July 9–11, 16–18 and 23-25, in the Fort Watauga Amphitheater at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area in Elizabethton. Performances begin nightly at 7:30 p.m. with the Box Office opening at 6 p.m. and John Carter’s Store (concessions) opening at 6:30 p.m.
Regular admission prices not including the dinner are as follows: $12 for adults; $10 for seniors (age 55 and over); $5 for students ages 6-17 and $6 for Friends of Sycamore Shoals Members. Children age 5 and under are admitted free.
