Gladys Bentley Collins

Gladys Bentley Collins, 93, of Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center.
A native of Boone, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Sherman and Sadie Jones Bentley. She had lived most of her life in Carter County.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Collins was employed at Ivy Hall Nursing Home and Hillview Nursing Center. She was a member of Little Doe Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elisha Collins; a sister, Dasie Tolley; a brother, Ed Bentley; two granddaughters, Terri Lynn and Julie Dawn McKinney; and a son-in-law, Ronnie McKinney.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, George Collins, Mike and Sharon Collins, all of Hampton, and Jimmy and Kathy Collins, Tolbert, Tenn.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty J and Barney McKinney, Judy McKinney and Helen and Gerald Roark, all of Hampton; her grandsons, David, Jeff and Jamie Tolley, Chris Collins, Michael Collins and James Matthew Collins; a granddaughter, April Collins; great-granddaughters, Kourtney Tolley, Kaci Tolley and Julie Tolley; a great-grandson, Dylan Tolley; and her special friend, Mildred Chambers.
Funeral services for Gladys Bentley Collins will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, July 10, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy English and the Rev. Mike Blair officiating. Music will be provided by Penney Bowers. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, in the Collins Cemetery with the Rev. Henry Berry officiating. Active pallbearers will be grandsons, great-grandson, Ed Chambers and Wayne McClain. Honorary pallbearers will be Julius Tolley Jr., David Whitehead, Steve Burleson, Eddie Orr, Johnny Hill, Dr. James Shipley, Mike Byrd, Eddie Morton and David Tolley Sr. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence of a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Barney McKinney. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Saturday.
