Ford Miller, 91, of Roan Mountain, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness. Ford was born in Roan Mountain, a son of the late Edgar Miller and Bertha Twiggs Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Mr. Miller retired from North American Rayon in 1989. He loved to hunt and work in his garden. He was a lifetime member of the Roan Mountain Holiness Church and was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Juanita Heaton Miller, one son, Roger Miller, and one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Randy Caraway, all of Roan Mountain; three grandchildren, Mark Miller of Harrisburg, Pa., Courtney and First Class Petty Officer Jeremy Clipse YN1, USCG, of Titusville, Fla., and Matthew and Roseanne Caraway of Roan Mountain, Tenn. The love of his life was his great-grandchildren, Arielle Clipse, Lucas Clipse and Neyland Caraway. He is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law, William Jr. and Helen Miller, of Johnson City, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law, Barbara McCurry and Pat Winters; special nieces and nephews, Judy Potter, Jean Bayne and Linda Fike, Wayne Miller and R.L. Miller, and several other special nieces and nephews; his close friends, Reverend Delaney Berry and Charles Jones; his church family; and many friends and neighbors.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Ford Miller will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, August 9, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Gene Honeycutt and Rev. Delaney Berry officiating. Music will be provided by Jeannie Honeycutt and Roseanne Caraway. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, August 10, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Matthew Caraway, Mark Miller, Jack Heaton, Rick Heaton, Duane Potter and Keith Stout. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Clipse, Garry Heaton, William McCloud, Robert Fike, Basil Wolfe, Mike Wolfe and Kenneth Julian. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, at 10 a.m. Monday to go in procession.
