Harry P. Gregg, Jr., 88, Watauga, passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 in the Hermitage Health Center. Born in Washington County, Tennessee October 15, 1926 to the late Harry P. Gregg, Sr. and Georgia Malone Gregg. He had lived his entire life in Sullivan County. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Harry was retired as a Maintenance Mechanic of North American Rayon Corporation after 33 years of service. He was a member of MM Martin Masonic Lodge, Jericho Shrine Temple and the American Legion. He was a member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Mary Pope and Sadie Suggs.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years: Velda Nidiffer Gregg. Three Sisters: Iva Lee Perry, Continental, Ohio, Betty Thomas, Bristol, Tn. and Goldie Walker Bluff City. Several nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2015 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eric Heaton and Mr. Brent Nidiffer, Minister officiating. Interment will follow in the McLaney Cemetery with Mr. John Gregg officiating. Music will be provided by the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church Choir. Active Pallbearers will be: Cotton Nidiffer, Mark Walker, Robert Proffitt, Virgil Stout, Daniel Nidiffer, David Nidiffer, Steve Nidiffer, Gary Holsclaw and Donnie Shipley. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jerry Brown, John Shepard, Travis Nidiffer and Jerry Gregg. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Hermitage Health Center and Bill Fritts. The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until the service hour at 2. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Gregg to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605-4255 or the donor’s favorite charity.
