Charles “Charlie” Fielder Goddard

A family memorial was held earlier this week at Tetrick Funeral Home for Charles “Charlie” Fielder Goddard. Charlie was a son of the late Lynn Goddard and Patsy Goddard Longmire of Elizabethton, Tenn. In addition to his father, Charlie was preceded in death by his brother, Robert “Bob” Goddard, Inverness, Fla.
Charlie was a loving son, husband and father. He graduated from Elizabethton High School, having lettered in track and receiving academic excellence awards in science every year. Charlie graduated from East Tennessee State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science. He worked for a brief period of time with the Alachua County Health Department, then over 37 years with the State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection Agency. He received Most Outstanding Employee of the Year for FDEP in 1997.
Charlie founded and managed a shelter providing food for indigent and low income people of Pensacola, Fa. He also was a regular lay minister in the Escambia County Juvenile Justice System and the Escambia County Jail System.
Charlie is survived by the mother of his children and former wife of 37 years, Jan Goddard, of Tallahassee; son, Charles (Megan) Goddard II, of Tampa; daughter, Rachel (Sean) Claiborne, of Nashville; son, Joel Goddard, of Murfreesboro; mother, Patsy Longmire, of Elizabethton; two sisters, Terri (Richard) Parker, of Atlanta, and Jennifer Birchfield, of Elizabethton; brother, Patrick (Kathy) Goddard, of Erwin; and many nieces, nephews and aunts.

Charlie will be remembered for his charismatic personality, his work ethic, his selfless acts of faith, and his immense love for his family.
