Darrell Milton Gilbert

Darrell Milton Gilbert, 69, of Mountain City, Tenn., passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at his home. He was born on July 11, 1946, in Johnson County, Tenn., to the late Oris Gilbert and Rosa Lee Arnold Dunn, who passed away November 29, 2014. In addition to his parents, Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Francis Gilbert, who passed away on November 18, 2014, and his brother-in-law, Junior Murphy.
Darrell was a 1965 graduate of Johnson County High School. He had worked as a truck driver and for Leco Manufacturing and for the Johnson County Highway Dept. Darrell enjoyed gardening, spending time outdoors, going to Cherokee, N.C., four wheeling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his daughters, Tammy McElyea and husband Danny and Jackie Johnson; sisters, Janice Murphy of Mountain City and Billie Jean Main and husband Colis of Trade; grandchildren, Angela Carico, Christopher McElyea, Johnny Johnson, Scotty Johnson and Jason Johnson; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four nieces; and many special friends and neighbors.
The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, at Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Shannon Courtner officiating. The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Richard Mink, Dean Mink, Bob Mink, Larry Mink, Ernest Tester and Cliff Dunn. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Arnold and Jim Moody.
