Larry K. Markland

Larry K. Markland, 69, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, September 3, 2015, from Hermitage Health Center. Larry was born in West Virginia, a son of the late Larry B. and Mollie G. Bryant Markland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Moochie Markland, and a sister, Charlotte Lacheny.
Larry retired from the Carter County Sheriff’s Department after many years of dedicated service. During his tenure he had served his community both as a deputy and as a narcotics agent. He was of the Free Will Baptist faith.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 25 years, Angela Lipford Markland, of the home; four daughters, Heather Yancey and husband Steve, Elizabethton, Lynn Bolin and husband Andy, Elyria, Ohio, Audrey Bennett and Lori Helton Markland and David, all of Elizabethton; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Jerry W. Markland and wife Phyllis, Elk Park, N.C., Bill Markland and wife Donna, Sun City, Fla., Blaine Markland and wife Mavis of Illinois, June Wolfe and husband Bill, Sun City, Fla., Betty Sams and husband Jerry, Ashville, N.C., and Patty Lynch, Cleveland, Tenn. Several nieces, nephews and cousins and a multitude of friends and neighbors also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Larry K. Markland will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 5, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Bud Malone and Rev. David Foster officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from his many friends and family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hermitage Health Center, Dr. Forbush and his nurses, Melissa Baumgardner, Jerry Williams, Luke Isbanioly and Uzoma Alu, for the excellent care and love shown to Larry and his family during his illness.
