As part of its Pet Appreciation Week (PAW) Sep. 16-20, Tractor Supply Company invites pets and their families to participate in activities and drawings promoting pet adoption on Saturday, Sep. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Elizabethton location at 210 Cherokee Park Drive.
“Pet Appreciation Week is one of our favorite and most successful events of the entire year,” said Rodney Bounds, manager of the Elizabethton Tractor Supply store. “More often than not, animals become a member of the family, and there’s something really special about helping a family find and care for the perfect pet.”
Pets will be available for adoption from the Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter, and TSC will provide adoption kits including food samples, reusable canned food lids, paw-shaped measuring cups, pet information and other pet supplies.
TSC Assistant Manager Jamie Markland said in the past, all of the dogs have been adopted, and Bounds said he expects a good turnout at this year’s event.
“You get to see breeds that you don’t see often, as well as unusual pets,” said Markland. “One year, a girl brought a monkey, and another brought a prairie dog.”
East Tennessee Spay and Neuter will offer the opportunity to sign up or its Pet Food Pantry and low cost spay and neuter program, as well as hosting a yard sale, bake sale and pet gift sale.
Activities will include pet food nutrition demonstrations as well as drawings for $200 worth of gift cards and giveaways. Carter County 4-H members will provide games and Dixie Delights will have funnel cakes and snow cones for sale.
Also for the month of September, TSC has bones available for a $1.66 donation fee to be given to the ECCAS in honor of PAW.
Additionally, on Sunday, the ECCAS will host another pet adoption event at Ashley Furniture from 1 to 4 p.m. with dogs available for adoption with a waved adoption fee. Dogs adopted will cost $45 for the spay or neuter, microchipping, first round of vaccinations and rabies vaccine.
