Michael L. Sturgill

Michael L. Sturgill, 51, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Michael was born on June 17, 1964 in Norton, Va., a son of Wilma Jean Rutherford Sturgill, of Elizabethton, and the late Harold Ted Sturgill. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Ruth Rutherford.
Michael retired as a drywall installer, after 30 years of service. He was of the Holiness faith and enjoyed NASCAR Racing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory, in addition to his mother, include his children, Ethan Michael Sturgill and Adam Chase Sturgill; his brother, Mark and Jenni Sturgill; his two sisters, Sheila Grindstaff and husband Michael, and Sandi Waters and husband Paul; and his special friend, Patricia Geisler. Several nieces and nephews, along with many friends, also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Michael L. Sturgill will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 27, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, September 28, in the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be his two sons, Ethan and Chase Sturgill, Issac Sturgill, Paul Waters, Lil’ Paul Waters, Dakota Waters, Michael Grindstaff and Chad Babb. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Ray, Joseph Vines, the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital, the staff of the Sycamore Shoals I.C.U. Department and Mountain States Hospice. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 10:15 a.m. Monday to go in procession.
