Reba Peters

Reba Peters, 93, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Judson and Maggie Hyder Nave.
Reba was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Elizabethton. During the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s she would taxi children to school. She loved her family and everyone called her “Big Granny.” Reba also loved to take rides in the mountains and working puzzles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Estel Peters; a son, Ricky Peters; a brother, Harry Nave; and a very special aunt who raised her, Lizzie Nave.
Survivors include three daughters, Patsy Davis and husband Lawrence, Johnson City, Peggy Moore, Elizabethton, and Betty Frazier and husband Wes, Elizabethton; two sons, C.J. Peters and wife Debbie, Elizabethton, and Darrell Peters and wife Lynda, Johnson City; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Several nieces, nephews and cousins and a special sister-in-law, Verlee Peters, Elizabethton, also survive.
A service to honor the life of Reba Peters will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, October 3, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Dr. Joe Sorah officiating. Music will be under the direction of Teresa Sorah. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 until 4 p.m. Saturday, prior to the funeral service, or at the residence of a daughter, Peggy Moore, 203 Donna Avenue, Elizabethton, Tenn., at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 4, in the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Mark Newman and Rev. Dean Smith officiating. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Newman, members of Calvary Baptist Church and Shirley Lowry. The family would like to express a special thank you to Hermitage Health Center for the loving care given to Mrs. Peters during her stay.
