Richard Allison Stevens

Richard Allison Stevens, 71, of Roan Mountain, passed away unexpectedly Monday, October 5, 2015, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Baltimore, Md., he was a son of the late Mike and Eva Atwood Stevens. He had lived most of his life in Carter County.
Richard served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He also served in the Tennessee National Guard. He was a construction worker and worked in landscaping.
Richard attended Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. His hobbies were working on lawn mowers, weed eaters, fishing and playing with his grandkid.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Virgil Ledford, and a brother, George Stevens.
Survivors include his wife, Nettie Hughes Stevens; three daughters, Christine Buckley and husband Jerry, Roan Mountain, Charlotte Stevens and fiancé Allen Scott, Elizabethton, and Samantha Markland and fiancé Adam Johnson, Roan Mountain; one son, Ray Ledford and wife Linda, Roan Mountain; six grandchildren, Little Ray Ledford, Heather Buckley, Carl Markland, Nina Markland, Hope Markland and Taylor Scott; his great-grandchildren, Ray Ledford, Charlie Rose and Bradlee Shook; his sisters, Juanita Buckley and Beulah Tripp, both of California, and Alice Harvey, Johnson City; his brothers, John and Ronald Stevens, both of Roan Mountain, and Mike Stevens of Roan Mountain. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services for Richard Allison Stevens will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, in the Johnson-Roan View Cemetery with the Rev. Randy English officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday at the cemetery, will be Jerry Buckley, Allen Scott, Nat Shook, Ray Ledford, Carl Markland, Little Ray Ledford, Lynn Ellis and Donald Smith. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Johnson City Medical Center and the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Friends may call at the residence of a daughter, Samantha Markland, Roan Mountain. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday.
