Mrs. Rosalea Hicks Puckett Berry, 72, formerly of Roan Mountain, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the Erwin Health Care Center following an extended illness. She was a daughter of the late Conley C. and Libby Gwyn Hicks and was born in Avery County, NC, although she lived the last 30 years of her life in Roan Mountain. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Ray, Elmer and Johnny Hicks, her sisters, Patsy Morgan, Elizabeth Townsend, Elaine Townsend, and a granddaughter, Kasey Nicole Puckett.
Mrs. Berry was a retired bookkeeper with 12 years of service with Tri-State Furniture and 6 years of service with U.S. Textiles. She loved to read, particularly her Bible, watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and work crossword puzzles. She was an affectionate and devoted mother and grandmother who loved her family and always enjoyed spending time with them. She was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Berry is survived by her children, Michael Glenn Puckett, Roan Mountain; Eric Puckett and his wife, Barbara, Chuckey, TN; Crystal Hensley and her husband, Chris, Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Amanda Danielle Puckett, CA; Haley Elizabeth Whitaker, Blountville; Logan “Drew” Hensley and Allison Rae Hensley, both of Elizabethton; a sister, Vertie Mae Schoff, Oregon and her special friends, Mildred Winters, Paula Carroway, Charlie Stout, Jason and Bridgett Morgan, Jimmy and Crystal Bailey, Rhodyjane Meadows, Beecher Holtsclaw, Margaret and George Church, and Peggy “Jo” Putnam. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Berry will be conducted on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace with Pastor Jeremy Rhoton officiating. Music will be under the direction of the family. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from Noon – 2 p.m. on Friday prior to the service or at the home of her daughter, Crystal Hensley, 126 Cecil Van Huss Road, Elizabethton, at other times.
Interment will follow the service in the Hicks Family Cemetery in Elk Park, NC. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Bailey, Beecher Holtsclaw, John Carroway, Jim Berry, Michael Hicks, Jason Morgan, Jerry Markland and Jason Markland. Glenn Townsend and Robert Townsend will serve as honorary pallbearers.
