William W. Thompson, age 67, of Hampton, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, October 23, 2015 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Lenoir, NC and was the son of the late Earl and Irene Johnson Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joann Thompson; one brother, Edward Thompson; one nephew, Mikey Thompson; and two brothers-in-law.
William was a United States Army veteran having served in Vietnam. He was a member of Fork Mountain Baptist Church and loved spending time with his family and friends, as well as hunting and fishing.
Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Kim McKinney and husband, Nick, Donna Johnson and husband, Kenny; one son, Lance Thompson and wife, Alisha; one he considered a son, Mike Ward and a special friend, Elizabeth Clayton. William also is survived by four grandchildren, Cody Thompson Madden, Johanna Johnson, Zack Hummer and Matt Shingleton; three brothers, David “Duck” Thompson, Stewart Thompson and wife Carrie, Mike “Turtle” Thompson; three sisters, Joann Campbell and husband, Dick, Susie Ray and companion Floyd Jones and Cricket Davis and husband, Tony. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate William’s life will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Sunday, October 25, 2015 in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain with Mr. Doug Blevins officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mountain Rose. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Sunday or other times at his home where he lived with his daughter for the last six years, Kimberly McKinney, 1545 Highway 321, Hampton, TN.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:30 am on Monday, October 26, 2015 at the Isaacs Cemetery on Buck Mountain. Military honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Andy Stout, Robbie Ray, Andy Hardin, Travis Stout, Keith McKinney, Dalton Greenwell, Tony Chambers and Randy Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Buchanan, Kim Barnett, Floyd Odom, Mike Ward, Harold Shell and Frankie Markland. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain at 10:45 am on Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to Tetrick Funeral Home, 211 North Riverside Drive, Elizabethton, TN, 37643 to help the family with funeral expenses.
